How to Empower Your Wellbeing
The past year has been challenging. I think that is something we can all agree on. Everyone has been affected by the past years’ events, and now we’re asking ourselves, “how do we find relief?” “What feels certain?” “What is the new normal?” All huge questions, and we have not been taught the tools to deal with this. But one thing we always have is a choice. We can choose what we focus on, what we prioritize. And most importantly, we can choose to see the currents events as traumatic or as an opportunity.
Why should you empower your wellbeing?
To create positive change, we need to show up for ourselves. We are in charge of our own wellbeing, no one else. So firstly, congratulations on taking the time for you right now to read this article. The hardest part is choosing to prioritize yourself in this fast-paced world. Remember, You are energy. Your choices each moment can either drain your energy or replenish it.
When you empower your wellbeing, fear dissipates, and calm is restored. We smile more, we feel more love, we feel worthy of asking for more, and we get it. We really start to create our dreams unapologetically. When we don’t get this, we sabotage our own happiness, we live in a reactionary state that feels powerless, and we feel like nothing is in our control. This is showing up for us more this past year than ever before! But the truth is we can’t blame anyone or anything for our unhappiness.
The most empowering thing we can do is change our inner world and dialogue and choose how we perceive and internalize what is happening around us. But you can only do that when you take care of your wellbeing first. The world has changed, which means we have to change the way we show up for ourselves. You have the opportunity to change the internal dialogue and create new deep self-loving habits. We are going to go over simple tools to empower your wellbeing so that you can feel great, no matter what is going on.
Tools to empower your wellbeing
1 Breathe – shift your energy
Breath is one of your most powerful tools. The way you breathe influences how you feel. When you take a moment to control your breath, you’re telling your brain and nervous system that you’re in control, and it’s ok to feel safe and calm. Try one of these three exercises and see how it changes the way you feel.
Belly breathe:
Inhale through the nose for a count of 5. Hold it at the top for a count of 2 and then exhale for a count of 7. Feel the belly expand on the inhale and contract on the exhale.
Box Breath:
In hale for a count of 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. Repeat.
Cleansing breath:
Inhale and envision thoughts and feelings of love entering your body, exhale and let go of the stress. Repeat. On the inhale expand your arms out wide and open your heart center, on the exhale release the breath through the mouth and give yourself a big self-loving hug.
You will be amazed how taking a few minutes a day for these simple breath techniques can restore a sense of calm. When you are feeling stress rising just take time out and do one of these exercises to control the stress level in your body.
2 Self Care Habits – Increase your energy
It’s easier than you think to increase your energy. It all comes down to choice. What you choose to eat, drink and how you move your body will all impact your energy. Self-care is all about looking after yourself and your body.
Food:
Think of food as energy. It’s a way to power up your body and your brain. When we eat colourful and fresh food, we’re giving our brains and bodies an instant power up. A great tip is to eat for energy when you have a full day and need the fuel. This includes your fruits and veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats. On the days when you can relax and chill, then eat your pasta dinners or carb heavy meals.
Daily Movement:
Our bodies were meant to move and not be sedentary. We need movement more than ever today to balance the time behind a computer. Moving releases, the feel good hormones in our bodies and we could all use a little more of that these days. Even a daily walk can increase your energy levels. The trick is to find something that makes you smile or your enjoy.
Water intake:
Our bodies need water to function and so many of us deprive it of this basic need. Not sure how much water you should be drinking? Use a water tracker of Your body weight x .67 / 8 = how glasses per day you need to drink.
3 Self Priority – nourish your energy
For some, this is one of the hardest tools to implement. But it is one of the most important and will change the game completely. Without making yourself a priority, you won’t make lasting change happen.
Own your schedule
Book “Nourish time” into your daily or weekly schedule. We are not robots and aren’t meant to keep going and going without a chance to recharge. We are human and the design of our bodies and mind requires soul nourishment.
Create daily habits
The best time to create daily habits is in the morning or evening. Morning and evening rituals are perfect daily habits to get our head in the right place to start and end your day.
And don’t forget to keep yourself accountable! Track your habits until they become as natural as brushing your teeth.
BIGGEST LIMITATION WE SAY TO OURSELVES: I DON’T HAVE TIME.
Life can and will get in the way if you let it, but then what? Nothing changes. It’s not a matter of having time. It is making time. It is making you a priority!
4 Grounding techniques to
balance your energy
Sometimes life gets crazy, we get overwhelmed and upset. By having the tools to ground and balance our energy, we’re allowing our minds and bodies to calm down and be present. The next time you feel stressed or upset try one of these techniques.
Energy cleanse:
Think of your body as a house that needs regular cleaning. Try listening to music that makes you feel good. Or using crystals like amethyst and rose quartz in your home or office space. Remember you are an energetic being so even after a difficult conversation you can feel heavy, or after listening to the news. Take your hands and with your intention do a body sweep with your hands, moving with strokes away from your heart to cleanse your energy field. This will help you feel lighter and create a shift.
Grounding technique:
Standing in mountain pose or Tadasana is a great way to ground your energy and feel the earths energy. Being out in nature any chance you get is a must right now. Try to get your bare feet or hands in the dirt. Go for a walk barefoot to feel the energy of the earth. There is a frequency in nature that is very healing and will help balance and calm.
Essential oils:
Essential oils can be used in 4 different ways. 1. Inhaled. 2. Diffused. 3. Topical. 4. Digested. We have been using essential oils in the spa world for years with our clients to help induce a state of relaxation. There are so many health benefits to essential oils, from energy boosts to relaxation, to calming nerves to helping with mood and anxiety. Now would be a great time to adopt your own essential oil ritual into your daily health care regime. You can find out more about essential oils on my blog at: thepositivechange.ca
5 How to overcome limiting beliefs – Power Your Mind
Our mind is our most powerful tool. The inner dialogue creates our reality. Your body can adapt to almost anything, it’s your mind you have to convince.
Common limiting assumptions that hold us back and create disharmony.
I am not smart enough
It will be too hard
I am not capable
I cannot afford this
I don’t have the experience
I don’t have time
What if….
But you have the power to change! And it all starts with the mind Reprogram the mind with:
Positive self talk:
We have 60-70 thousand thoughts a day. How many of these are in critter brain or self-sabotage? First step is to bring an awareness to the internal dialogue so you can upgrade it to serve you better.
Positive affirmations:
Have a weekly power affirmation. State them in the present and affirmative tense using:
I am or
I have
You have the power to change what you believe. You can also try swapping the negative thoughts with positive ones.
Fear > I enjoy life with peace of mind
I don’t have time take care of myself > I am a priority and nourish all the parts of me
I am not capable > I am intelligent and limitless
I can’t afford this > I am abundant and prosperous
6 Stress Management Hacks
Stress is a natural part of being human. But it can be hard to stop it from taking over and infecting all areas of your energy.
Here are some simple points to remember when it comes to stress:
Focus on what is in your control
Don’t live by the “What-ifs”
Be in the moment
When we focus on what is in our control we take our power back. Remember we are always in control of our reactions to a situation. WE are in control of our thoughts and our words. When we live by the “What if’s..” we keep ourselves in a fear induced mindset. Instead focus on the facts and the ‘what is’, rather than the what ‘might be’s’. Living in the present moment is the best gift you can give yourself. If we fret about the past or worry about the future we are constantly out of alignment. In the moment you will always be in harmony and at peace.
If you only remember one thing, then just remember this. Small changes create big impacts
So what is one small step you can make today to make yourself a priority?
Empowering your wellbeing is all about living in a more harmonious state regardless of our outside environment. Because you recognize that your power is changing your inner world. This pandemic has been one of the hardest things we have been through, but remember you have power within you to create peace and harmony.
